Our Story

A Legacy Rolled in Every Leaf

The latent vision that would become J&C Cigars began as a "what if" conversation between Marines during a deployment to Fallujah, Iraq in 2007. While I grew up around the tobacco industry and fell in love with the art of crafting a cigar, as well as the camaraderie that often comes with enjoying a quality cigar, it seemed far-fetched and unachievable to create a business, let alone a successful cigar brand, at the time. Nonetheless, the conversation was etched in my mind and stuck with me long after the deployment.

Dreams and thoughts would eventually turn into action after the idea resurfaced in conversation with a dear friend many years later. While standing in the middle of his humidor, the vision of not just owning a cigar brand, but being immersed in every step of crafting the best quality cigar, seemed achievable.

J&C Cigars began with very small batches, specifically for my military brothers, close friends, and family. After all, their support and encouragement led to this moment. However, the feedback on each batch enforced the notion that J&C Cigars was something more than just another cigar brand; it was a unique identity. An identity that encompasses everyone that helped along the way while paying tribute to the craft and those that came before.

You see, my family comes from generations of crop farming in the Dominican Republic, with many finding their way into the tobacco and cigar industry. When I embarked on my journey to create J&C Cigars, I leaned on the expertise of my cousin, and Master Blender, Luis Fermin. The goal was to create the best cigar possible, even if that meant smaller batches and more time investment into each cigar. All the while, I dedicated myself to learning each aspect of the craft, from seed to final product, which has allowed for an even stronger identity in each batch and within the brand.

From the fields to the ash, tobacco varieties, drying, curing, and the overall life cycle of creating a quality cigar, the decision we make remains true to the identity of the brand. Our tobacco is carefully sourced from the Cibao Valley and surrounding areas, from reputable families in the industry. Every J&C cigar is crafted using traditional methods, without compromise. More importantly, everyone at J&C Cigars and Tabacalera Fermin is treated like family, which is a key part of maintaining the best working environment and quality of our production. While we have faced many challenges, as many in the industry have, we have never let that stop us or distract us from our mission, path, and identity.

When we blend our cigars, it is a family effort, ensuring that we always keep the customer and craft in mind. Quality over quantity will always be our motto and philosophy, hence why we strive to create small batches to ensure consistency. Our vision is to grow as a family in the industry, as well as to be known and recognized for our great and consistent blends, not by volume of output. As we grow, we will always keep in mind where the dream started, and where our humble beginnings will continue to take us.

From the sands of Iraq, to the beautiful tobacco fields of the Dominican Republic, and finally to a wonderful smoke for the customer. J&C Cigars will always maintain the same love and passion that we put into each and every cigar we make. This is our promise to not only ourselves, but the industry and customer.
